Well, we got to the States okay. The flight from Heathrow was 45 mins late leaving, but we made up good time and landed in O'Hare only 15-20 mins late. We were parked right next to the customs and immigration point - literally a two min walk, which is a change for O'Hare. Customs and Immigration was a breeze, got our bags put back in the system, and went to Terminal 2 for the Moline flight.
Now, The first leg was with American, and the second with United. Whilst American could get our baggage booked through, they couldn't give us a boarding pass. When we got to Terminal 2, they only have an automated point to collect boarding passes, and it wasn't accepting our booking number. So off to Terminal 1, and with 25 mins to go, we found ourselves at the opposite end of the Terminal, queuing in the domestic flights - customer services line. With 20 mins to go, we got our boarding passes and dashed to security where we had to queue up, removing even our shoes. With 15 mins to go, we were at the gate, where to boarding lady said "I haven't even started boarding the Moline flight..." (There were 3 flights going from the one gate at the same time).
Now, all boarded on the flight, and the boarding lady came on and said "This flight is over weight. We need 3 volunteers to give up their seats and take the 7.20pm flight. We will give you a free return trip to anywhere in the 48 States (Alaska and Hawaii weren't included), valid for a year, completely transferable, and no block-out dates." A pretty sweet deal for a US resident. :)
So we got to Moline, picked up the SUV, and made it to Holly's where we had a pretty relaxing evening. :) The flights were pretty much the smoothest flights I've been on, and this was the least stressful trip I've ever taken. :)
